Hello everyone, here is a statement I made in Asianet Malayalam News Chanel (New Hour of 28/02/2021) on whether what is called “Love Jihad” is a serious issue in Kerala. I received several responses to my comments, many of them critical. I accept them with humility. But I still believe that it is part of a calculated political agenda.
All religions are concerned of number for at least two reasons. One, it brings them public acceptance in the lager society. Two, it brings them revenue. This tendency is much strong in Semitic religions. They on the one hand create formidable boundaries around to see no one goes out of the fence and on the other hand present a pleasant face to attract those are outside. In case one goes out, that person will be persecuted through whatever means they could. Those who are inside will be used to the maximum for the benefit of what all they believe in. In most of the cases, the divine in whom they believe will have no relevance in all these. History tells us that this happened even in the same religion but in different sects or denominations.
Aryans who came to India did this to the native Dravidians and Tribals. Those European Christians did this to native Americans. Catholics did this to Orthodox, Protestant and Anglican Christians. The Latins did this to the native Christians in Kerala. This had multiple methods and forms. High class Hindus did this to new Christian converts in North India. The “Syrian Christians” did this to new converts in Kerala Christians irrespective of denomination”. Those Hindus perform what is called “khar vapasi” (return to home) to bring by any means those who joined other religious faiths. Though the basic principle of Buddha religion is non-violence, what they did to Sri Lankan Tamils and what they are doing to those Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are criminal violence. This is the reality before us. We cannot blame just one religion for what they are doing. What we need to do is, conscientize the world outside against this.
What is now alleged through “Love Jihad” is, the Muslim boys pretend to fall in love with Hindu and Christian girls and force them to become Muslims and treat them inhumanly. Many of them are taken to terrorist camps for fighting against others and die there. Yes, this is a fact. But all love marriages do not fall in this category. There are people who are living happily ‘ever after’. There are Christian and Hindu and of no religion boys marry girls and sell them to brothel houses in big cities and some others present their wives to friends. What will we call them? That is my question. To me, primarily family atmosphere should become basic educational institution where children gather strong immunity against any anti-social approaches and tendencies. Again, we need to address each case individually. But this is not the “khar vapasi” people want. They want all other religions communities out of Indian territory. This is not because they respect their religion, but through that, they can use religion a means to secure their political interests. This is exactly what they did through the Citizen’s Amendment bill passed some time back. I cannot endorse this approach, and I will use any platform I get to condemn this tactic of “khar vapasi” people. Of course, there are lot of people who do not agree with me, I respect that. But what I think is right to me; and I say after Martin Luther, “I rest my case”.
