I Did Not, Manorama Said It!

If I say some thing about aggressive privatization, they will call me a communist. Now read two news reports on Malayala Manorama and try to think about tomorrow. According to the first report, Central finance minister Mr. P. Chithambaram has said that more in stock regarding privatization and economic liberalization.  The second one says, Central Excise Intelligence has issued notice to those private insurance companies for cheating the government on tax amounting over 300 crore.

It is this kind of acts of American Insurance Group (AIG) and other banking and insurance companies that made the whole world plunge in to financial crisis in 2008. Of course the Central Excise has issued notice to those who cheated the government. But the case will not be furthered as they have enough money to pull the strings in politics and in the administration and also to hire good lawyers to fight for them in the court. The govt. lawyer will mostly keep quite. Final result will be that those criminals will get away with what they did. The country will lose money. Country means people (I think). What do you think?

Dear Thirumeni,
You are 100% right. The present UPA Govt is putting heavy loads on common people. It is getting away from the problems of poor and middle class society. It seems that the PM & FM are caring the interests of MN companies. If it continues, people will take law in hands and that leads to anarchy. Govt should have the control over all MNCs. How can we say our economy is growing by seeing the profits of private sector big giants? Ettiley pasu pullu thinnilla.

Let the eminent rulers and the able economists, whom we have voted in to power and who also do have the good background and experience in handling such situations successfully in the past, handle these crucial ecnomic matters of the country. It will be good if people from the other fields first learn and understand atleast the basics of the finance and ecomonics first, before passing the critical comments on such matters.

I just wonder whether you have had a chance to go through what the world bank former chief Mr. Joseph Stiglitz said in his book "Globalization and its Discontents" or what Michael Amaldooss S J. said in his book "Globalization and its Victims" or what Academy Award nominated film maker Charles Ferguson's acclaimed documentary "Inside Job" or Michael Moor's documentaries "Fahrenheit 9/11" or "Sicko" talked about. I Just wonder whether you had a chance to read about the statement of Pope Benedict XVI who said to reporters “The economy does not function with market self-regulation but needs an ethical reason to work for mankind. Man must be at the center of the economy, and the economy cannot be measured only by maximization of profit but rather according to the common good.” while traveling on board en route Madrid to meet the World Catholic Youth on August 17, 2011 or what he said on January 8th 2012 to international diplomats who met him to deliver Christmas greetings to him, or what he said in 2009 encyclical "Charity in Truth" . Just wondering why the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi said "the soul of India is in the villages" or why Jawaharlal Nehru always took a socialist attitude and was with non-aligned movement or why Mrs. Indira Gandhi nationalized all the private banks and wanted to have her budgets focus on public sector?

I am seriously thinking about floating a new party on a national level and prepare the election manifesto based on the above points. I am sure that the vast majority of the people will vote for me to become the Prime Minister. Who cares where the country will be after 5 years of my rule. I will be happy to get my perks as the ex-Prime Minister and live the rest of my life on it. I may get references in the history book as the People's Prime Minister. May even get a Bharath Ratna or Nobel Prize.
